Tasks edit

Moving files to Commons edit

Files can be copied to Commons by any autoconfirmed user. You can help by attending to any of the current tasks listed below.

You can use FileImporter/FileExporter to copy the files and the entire file history.

You can also use other tools like the CommonsHelper2 or the CommonsHelper, or via pywikipedia bots like imagecopy.py or imagecopy_self-py (latter currently works only on files from enwiki). But only FileImporter/FileExporter moves the file history.

Deletion at source can only be done by a user that has the delete permission in the source project.

Importing content other than files edit

The transwiki transclusion feature needs to be enabled for cross-wiki transclusion of templates and pages.

Transferring of any content other than files should be done by administrators or those with a flag that offer the import function (such as Importer or Transwiki-importer). Transferring of content should not be done by any method other than direct importing, to ensure that the original history is copied along with the transfer.

It is recommended to place a notice on the related local talkpage (of the content to be imported) about a week before transferring, so that users have sufficient time to discuss any potential issues on the migration (such as global account issues, usage instructions, etc).
